What you need to get your Indiana real estate license

Broker:

  • Be 18 years old or older.
  • Must not have been convicted of an act that could lead to disciplinary action, a crime that directly impacts the ability to practice competently, or a crime suggesting a tendency to put the public at risk.
  • Complete a 90-hour real estate pre-licensing course.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Complete and pass the real estate examination.

What is the passing score for the Indiana real estate license exam?

For Brokers:

The exam comprises 145 questions, 80 national and 50 state law questions, the rest are pretest items that are not counted toward the score. To pass the exam, you must answer correctly no less than 75 questions.

As soon as you finish your exam, you will obtain a score report marked “pass” or “fail”.

What is the time limit for the Indiana real estate exam?

For the broker exam, you are allowed 150 minutes for the national portion and 90 minutes for the state portion, for a total of 240 minutes (4 hours).

What to bring for the state of Indiana real estate license exam?

  • You must provide 1 form of identification. A valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, state ID, passport) must bear your signature and have your photograph. In addition, it must be current and unexpired.
  • Your name, as shown on the application form, must exactly match the name on the photo ID used when checking in at the amination site.
  • Broker candidates must bring the original proof of completion from the pre-license education course, dated within 365 days of the exam date. This proof must be shown at each exam attempt. AN ELECTRONIC VERSION OR HARD COPY WILL BE ACCEPTED.

What is the format of the exam?

The exam is given on a computer. The time starts as soon as the candidates looks at the first question, and a digital clock on the screen indicates the time remaining on the exam. One examination question is presented at a time, and answer choices to the question are identified as A, B, C, or D. Candidates type a letter on the keyboard or use the computer mouse to select the chosen response.

What is the exam content?

The national portion of the broker real estate exam contains the following topics:

  • Real Property Characteristics, Legal Descriptions, and Property Use.
  • Forms of Ownership, Transfer, and Recording of Title.
  • Property Value and Appraisal.
  • Real Estate Contracts and Agency.
  • Real Estate Practice.
  • Property Disclosures and Environmental Issues.
  • Financing and Settlement.
  • Real Estate Math Calculations.

The state portion of the broker real estate exam contains the following topics:

  • The Indiana Real Estate Commission.
