What you need to get your real estate license in Missouri?
Sales associate:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Submit your license application to the Missouri Real Estate Commission within six months after completing your 48-hour pre-examination course.
- If you have ever held a real estate license in another state or jurisdiction—even if it has expired—you must provide a certification of licensure from the licensing authority of that state or jurisdiction.
- All applicants for an original Missouri license are required to undergo fingerprinting for a Missouri and federal criminal history background check.
Brokers:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- For all options, it’s crucial to submit your application within the specified six-month window to remain eligible.
Option 1: Current Missouri Salesperson
- Experience: Hold a current and active Missouri salesperson license for at least 24 of the last 30 months immediately before applying.
- Education: Complete a 48-hour pre-exam broker course at an accredited Missouri real estate school before the exam date and earn a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion.
- Examination: Pass both portions (national and state) of the Missouri broker examination.
- Application Deadline: Submit your complete application within six months of completing the 48-hour broker course.
Option 2: Licensed Attorney
- Be a licensed attorney.
- If you hold an active Missouri salesperson license:
- Pass both portions of the Missouri examination.
- If you are not a licensed salesperson:
- First pass both portions of the Missouri salesperson examination, then pass both portions of the Missouri broker examination.
- Education requirements and prior license experience are waived.
- Documentation: Include a copy of your current Bar card with your application.
Option 3: Out-of-State Salesperson
- Hold a current and active salesperson license in another jurisdiction and have 24 of the last 30 months of active salesperson experience.
- Complete a 48-hour pre-exam course at an accredited Missouri real estate school before the exam date and earn a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion.
- Pass both portions of the Missouri broker examination.
- Submit your complete application within six months of completing the 48-hour broker course.
- Provide a current license certification (not a copy of the license) issued within the last three months by the real estate commission of the state where you’re licensed.
Option 4: Out-of-State Broker
- Hold a current and active broker license in another jurisdiction with 24 of the last 30 months of active experience as a real estate salesperson or broker.
- Pass the state portion of the Missouri broker examination.
- Submit your complete application within six months of passing the state portion of the broker exam.
- Provide a current license certification (not a copy of the license) issued within the last three months by the real estate commission of the state where you’re licensed.
What is the passing score for the Missouri real estate license exam?
The sales agent exam comprises 140 total questions, 100 on the national portion and 40 on the state-specific portion. Correctly answer at least 70% of the total questions in the national portion and 75% in the state portion to pass.
The broker exam comprises 165 total questions, 90 on the national portion and 75 on the state-specific portion. Correctly answer at least 75% of the total questions of each portion to pass.
At the end of the examination, your score will appear on the screen, and a score report will be sent to your email.
What is the time limit for the Missouri real estate exam?
You have three hours to complete the national exam and two hours to complete the state portion. This is valid for salesperson and brokers exam.
What to bring for the state of Missouri real estate license exam?
You are required to present one form of identification. The ID must match the name used during scheduling, include your signature and photo, and be valid and unexpired.
You will receive scratch paper and a pencil for use during the exam. These must be returned when you check out.
A basic (non-scientific) calculator is also permitted.
What is the format of the exam?
The exam is administered on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions.
