What you need to get your real estate license in New Mexico

Associate Broker:

  • Apply online using the NMPlus portal.
  • Complete 90 hours of pre-licensing courses distributed in 30 hours in each of the fallowing courses: Real Estate Principles and Practice, Real Estate Law, and Broker Basics, not longer than three years prior to making the application.
  • Pass the Broker Exam (National and State portions).
  • Be 18 years old or older.
  • Be a U.S legal resident.
  • Examination Fee: $ 95.

Qualifying Broker:

  • Apply online using the NMPlus portal.
  • Complete 120 hours of commission approved pre-licensing courses, including one 30 credit-hour course each in Real Estate Principles and Practice, Real Estate Law, Broker Basics, and a Brokerage Office Administration course.
  • Be 18 years old.
  • Be a legal resident of the USA.
  • Been actively engaged in real estate business as an associate broker for at least two of the last five years.
  • Passed the Broker’s examination.

People who were qualifying brokers on or before December 31, 2005 do not need to comply with these requirements and may obtain qualifying broker status again by filing a Trade Name Registration Form and paying the $20 trade name registration fee to the Commission.

What is the passing score for the New Mexico real estate license exam?

For associate brokers:

The exam comprises 125 questions in total. Both exams are divided into two sections: 75 questions for the national portion and 50 questions for the state portion. To achieve a passing score, you must correctly answer a minimum of 60 questions in the national section and 38 questions in the state section.

Upon completing your examination, you will receive an official results report.

What is the time limit for the New Mexico real estate exam?

For the associate broker exam, the total time limit is 180 minutes. You will be allowed 120 minutes to take the national portion and 60 minutes to take the state-specific portion.

What to bring for the state of New Mexico real estate license exam?

One form of identification. Must be a valid form of government-issued identification (driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID) that bears your signature and match the first and last name under which the candidate is registered.

You can bring a basic, non-scientific calculator to the exam center.

What is the format of the exam?

The exam, which consists of multiple-choice questions, is taken on a computer.

What is the exam content?

The national portion of the associate broker real estate exam contains the following topics:
