What you need to get your real estate license in Pennsylvania
Salesperson:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Fulfill one of the following education requirements:
- Complete five credits or 75 hours of introductory real estate courses through a real estate education provider approved by the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission, a provider outside Pennsylvania approved by that jurisdiction’s real estate authority, or an accredited college.
- Hold one of the following degrees:
- A bachelor’s degree with a major in real estate from an accredited college or university.
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework equivalent to a major in real estate.
- A juris doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Apply online.
- Pass both portions of the salesperson real estate exam.
- Examination fee: $49 for each exam.
Broker:
- Be at least 21 years old.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Possess at least 3 years of qualified experience as a licensed salesperson or 3 years of equivalent experience, education, or a combination of both.
- Complete 16 credits or 240 hours of real estate instruction within 10 years before passing the licensing examination.
- Submit the appropriate fee and all required documentation to the Pennsylvania Real Estate Commission.
- Pass both portions of the Broker Examination.
- Create an account or log in to your existing account at www.pals.pa.gov and submit an application for the specific type of broker license you wish to obtain.
- Examination fee: $49 for each exam.
What is the passing score for the Pennsylvania real estate license exam?
The national/general portion of the salesperson and broker real estate exam comprises 80 scored questions, while the state-specific examination is made up of 40 scored questions. The minimum passing score for both portions is 75%.
What is the time limit for the Pennsylvania real estate exam?
Both the salesperson and broker exams allow 150 minutes for the national portion and 60 minutes for the state-specific portion.
What to bring for the state of Pennsylvania real estate license exam?
Two forms of current identification with signatures are required. The name on the IDs must exactly match the name on the registration. The primary ID must be government-issued, include a photo, and have a valid signature. All identification must be in English.
