What you need to get your real estate license in Utah
Sales agents:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Social security number.
- Demonstrate integrity, truthfulness, good reputation, and competence to practice.
- High School graduate or equivalent certification.
- Finish 120 hours of approved coursework at a certified Real Estate Pre-License School, following the Real Estate Pre-License Education Curriculum.
- Pass the Real Estate Sales Agent Exam before completion of the required pre-license curriculum expires (one year).
- Submit your license application within 90 days of passing the exam.
- Set up a UtahID account and apply for your Real Estate Sales Agent License after completing all required steps.
Brokers:
- Demonstrate integrity, truthfulness, good reputation, and competence to practice.
- In the last five years, you must have either three years of full-time, licensed, active real estate experience or two years of it plus one year of full-time professional real estate experience.
- A minimum of 60 documented experience points within the five years before your application, in accordance with R162-2f-401a.
- 120 hours of pre-licensing education at a certified Real Estate Pre-Licensing School.
- Pass the Broker Exam from a State Approved Testing Provider.
- Apply to the Division and Include the checklist to ensure a complete application.
What is the passing score for the Utah real estate license exam?
The sales agent exam comprises 130 total questions, 80 on the national portion and 50 on the state-specific portion. Correctly answer at least 70% of the total questions of each portion to pass.
The broker exam comprises 170 total questions, 80 national questions, and 90 state-specific questions. Correctly answer at least 75% of the total questions of each portion to pass.
The examination is divided into two parts: general and state law. If you pass one section of the examination and fail the other, you need to retake only the failed section within six months. If both sections have yet to be passed after six months, you must retake the entire examination.
What is the time limit for the Utah real estate exam?
The time limit is four hours for both the sales agent and broker exam.
What to bring for the state of Utah real estate license exam?
Provide 2 forms of ID with matching names, both unexpired and containing a valid signature (e.g., driver’s license, passport, green card, U.S. social security card, or signed debit/credit card). If the name on your registration differs from the one on your identification, you must bring proof of your name change.
