What Do You Need to Get a Real Estate License in Kansas?
Salesperson:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Complete 60 hours of salesperson pre-license education courses approved by the Commission.
- Meet all application procedures outlined by the Commission.
- Pass the real estate salesperson license exam before your course certificate expires.
- Affiliate with a licensed Kansas Real Estate Broker. The application must include the signature of a supervising or branch broker who certifies your honesty, trustworthiness, and good reputation while disclosing any pending charges, convictions, diversions, or suspended sentences. Note that an initial license cannot be issued as inactive.
- Exam Fee: $82 for first-time applicants and $75 for applicants retaking the exam.
- Criminal background check: $70
- License fee: $125
Broker:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Hold a salesperson license in Kansas or a salesperson/broker license in another state.
- Be actively engaged in licensed real estate activities for at least two of the past three years, with such activities performed for compensation and on behalf of a client or customer.
- The Commission staff can approve broker applications under delegated authority if the following criteria are met:
- Licensed three or more years with 30 or more transaction points
- Licensed two or more years with 40 or more transaction points
- Licensed two or more years with 20 to 39 transaction points
- Complete 60 hours of broker pre-license education courses approved by the Commission.
- Meet all application procedures outlined by the Commission.
- Pass the real estate broker license exam before the course certificate expires.
- Provide company information on the application.
- If establishing a new office, complete and submit the Open Company or Branch Office Form (REC-430) along with a $100.00 fee.
- If working as an associate broker at an existing office, ensure the application is signed by the supervising or branch broker, certifying your honesty, trustworthiness, and good reputation while disclosing any pending charges, convictions, diversions, or suspended sentences.
- Note that an original license cannot be issued on inactive status.
- Attach the experience pages, transaction log, Full Detail MLS reports, and any additional documentation specified in the Experience Requirements.
- Exam Fee: $82 for first-time applicants and $75 for applicants retaking the exam.
