What you need to get a real estate license in Michigan

Salesperson:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Social security number.
  • Complete the application, including paying the license fee when applying online.
  • Complete 40 hours of pre-license education which includes at least 4 hours of civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing.
  • Examination – Proof of receiving a passing score on the Real Estate Salesperson examination administered by PSI.
  • Have a licensed individual broker or broker company sponsor you to become licensed.

Broker:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Social security number.
  • Complete 90 hours of pre-license education which includes at least 9 hours of civil rights law and equal opportunity in housing.
  • Complete the application, including paying the license fee when applying online.
  • Three years of experience as a real estate salesperson or in a field related to real estate.
  • Examination – Proof of receiving a passing score on the Real Estate Salesperson examination administered by PSI.

What is the passing score for the Michigan real estate license exam?

For salespersons:

The exam includes 115 multiple-choice questions. The passing percentage score is 70% of the total questions.

For brokers:

The exam includes 120 multiple-choice questions. The passing percentage score is 75% of the total questions, meaning candidates must correctly answer at least 90 questions.

If you pass the examination, you will only see a ‘PASS’ indication without a numerical score. Candidates who do not pass will receive a detailed score report for each significant section of the exam outline.

What is the time limit for the Michigan real estate exam?

For the salesperson exam, you have 3 hours.

For the broker exam, you have 3.5 hours.

What to bring for the State of Michigan real estate license exam?

You need to bring two forms of identification to the test site. One must be government-issued, have your picture, and include your address that matches the name on your application with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID.

Your signature and your preprinted legal name must be displayed on the second ID. All IDs must match the name provided to PSI by the Board.

Companions of candidates are not allowed to wait in the test center, inside the building, or on the building’s property.

A basic (non-scientific) calculator is also permitted.

The salesperson exam covers both national and state content in a single, unified portion.
