What Do You Need to Get a Real Estate License in Missouri?
Salesperson:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Submit your license application to the Missouri Real Estate Commission within six months after completing your 48-hour pre-examination course and complete the 24-hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course (MREP).
- If you have ever held a real estate license in another state or jurisdiction—even if it has expired—you must provide a certification of licensure from the licensing authority of that state or jurisdiction.
- All applicants for an original Missouri license are required to undergo fingerprinting for a Missouri and federal criminal history background check.
Broker:
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- Show evidence of being fingerprinted through the approved statewide vendor.
- For all options, it’s crucial to submit your application within the specified six-month window to remain eligible.
Option 1: Current Missouri Salesperson
- Experience: Hold a current and active Missouri salesperson license for at least 24 of the last 30 months immediately before applying.
- Education: Complete a 48-hour pre-exam broker course at an accredited Missouri real estate school before the exam date and earn a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion.
- Examination: Pass both portions (national and state) of the Missouri broker examination.
- Application Deadline: Submit your complete application within six months of completing the 48-hour broker course.
Option 2: Licensed Attorney
- Be a licensed attorney.
- If you hold an active Missouri salesperson license: Pass both portions of the Missouri examination.
- If you are not a licensed salesperson: First pass both portions of the Missouri salesperson examination, then pass both portions of the Missouri broker examination.
- Education requirements and prior license experience are waived.
- Documentation: Include a copy of your current Bar card with your application.
Option 3: Out-of-State Salesperson
- Hold a current and active salesperson license in another jurisdiction and have 24 of the last 30 months of active salesperson experience.
- Complete a 48-hour pre-exam course at an accredited Missouri real estate school before the exam date and earn a Certificate of Satisfactory Completion.
- Pass both portions of the Missouri broker examination.
- Submit your complete application within six months of completing the 48-hour broker course.
- Provide a current license certification (not a copy of the license) issued within the last three months by the real estate commission of the state where you’re licensed.
Option 4: Out-of-State Broker
- Hold a current and active broker license in another jurisdiction with 24 of the last 30 months of active experience as a real estate salesperson or broker.
- Pass the state portion of the Missouri broker examination.
- Submit your complete application within six months of passing the state portion of the broker exam.
- Provide a current license certification (not a copy of the license) issued within the last three months by the real estate commission of the state where you’re licensed.
