What you need to get your real estate license in Rhode Island

Salesperson:

Broker:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Have two years of full time experience as a Real Estate Salesperson, validated by the employing broker.
  • Proof of completion of 90-hour Pre-License Education, three (3)-hour course in Lead Poisoning/Lead Hazard Mitigation, and a Certificate of the three (3)-hour New Agency Law Course, if it is not included in the 90-hour curriculum.
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed and signed application form.
  • A background check from the home state law enforcement agency.
  • Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation (BCI) background check from the Rhode Island Office of the Attorney General.
  • You must submit a Tax Payer Status Affidavit / Identity Verification.
  • You must submit a Certificate of Errors and Omissions Insurance.
  • Complete and pass the real estate examination before applying.
  • Examination Fees:
    • National/General section: $50.00
    • RI State Law section: $50.00

What is the passing score for the Rhode Island real estate license exam?

The salesperson exam consists of general practice and state law portions. The general practice portion consists of 80 questions, and the state law portion comprises 50. The passing score for the salesperson exam is 70.

The broker exam consists of 80 general practice questions and 60 state law questions. The passing score for the broker exam is 70.

You will receive your score immediately after you complete your exam.

What is the time limit for the Rhode Island real estate exam?

For both the broker and salesperson exams, you have 2.5 hours for the general practice portion and 1.5 hours for the state law portion.

What to bring for the state of Rhode Island real estate license exam?

  • Two valid forms of identification that include your signature. The name on these IDs must precisely match the name used during registration. The primary ID must be government-issued, include a photograph, and feature a signature, while the secondary ID must also display a valid signature. All identification documents must be in English.

      • U.S. Department of State driver’s license.
      • U.S. learner’s permit.
      • National/state/country ID card.
      • Passport.

What is the format of the exam?

The exam is administered on a computer and consists of multiple-choice questions.
